I was called to preach the gospel in 1973 and called to my first church in 1976. God has faithfully led me on a marvelous journey of ministry that has allowed me to serve in Kentucky, Tennessee, New Mexico, Colorado and now in Arizona. I look forward to serving FBC Sun City as long as God gives strength to serve. I have been married to Carolyn since 1971 and she has always been a great ministry partner. We have 2 adult sons, 2 daughter-in-laws, and 6 grandchildren.
I have pastored three churches: First Baptist Church of Farmington, Arkansas for 8 years, Central Baptist Church of Tucson, Arizona for 26½ years, and here since February of 2015. My strongest gift is teaching; I have previously served as an adjunct college professor for 17 years, teaching Bible classes for three universities. I am currently teaching our members verse-by-verse through Leviticus on Wednesdays at 4PM. I have been married since 1969 to Janice and am the father of a married daughter whose family of four lives in Riverside, California. Ministry at Sun City is proving to be very rewarding and quite enjoyable.
Minister of Music
From an early age, I grew up surrounded by church music; little did I know at the time that it was also what God had planned for my future. My passion is truly ministering through music: first, as an important aspect of the worship that our glorious Lord deserves; second, as a way for us to remember and learn about God and His guidance for our lives; third, as a door to the heart for God's saving Word. FBC Sun City is the first church I’ve served in after seminary, and my wife Julena and I have been so encouraged by the friendship and support we have received here. We pray we're as much of a blessing to the members of our church as they've been to us!
I have been in ministry, primarily with church plants and non-profits, for much of my young adult life. It has taken me all across the country from Los Angeles to Manhattan. Currently, my husband and I are rooted here in Phoenix for a season of building the foundation of our little family. Long term, it is my hope and desire to earn my MA degree as a Licensed Therapist with a focus in trauma along with my spiritual director credentials. My goal is to serve both inside and outside the church, specifically within the arena of trauma, where there is a vast need for both the truth and grace of a good God. In the meantime, this is the perfect landing spot and I am very much looking forward to joining in serving you all here.
